Bunche, Ralph (Johnson)
(7 ago. 1904, Detroit, Mich., EE.UU.–9 dic. 1971, Nueva York, N.Y.).

Diplomático estadounidense. Obtuvo varios grados académicos en la Universidad de Harvard y desde 1928 fue profesor en la Universidad de Howard. Estudió política colonial en África y luego colaboró con Gunnar Myrdal en An American Dilemma [Un dilema americano], estudio de las relaciones raciales en EE.UU. Durante la segunda guerra mundial se desempeñó en los departamentos de guerra y de estado de EE.UU. y en 1947 pasó a ser director del departamento fiduciario de la Secretaría de la ONU. Su labor en la obtención de una tregua entre árabes y judíos en Palestina le mereció, en 1950, el Premio Nobel de la Paz. Como subsecretario de asuntos políticos de la ONU, tuvo a su cargo las fuerzas de paz en el canal de Suez (1956), en el Congo (1960) y en Chipre (1964). También fue director de la NAACP (sigla en inglés de Asociación nacional para el progreso de las personas de color) durante 22 años.
